Slope (2022)

Slope (2022)

This work is another example of my examination of perceptual ambiguity through geometric abstraction with its diagonal thrust and dual circular anchors generating a visual rhythm that suggests both motion and equilibrium. Diagonal lines and dual circular forms animate this composition, creating a sense of tilt and tension.

More specifically, in Slope Ione orchestrates a dynamic interplay between balance and disruption. The warm and cool tones, intersecting planes, and textured brushwork evoke shifting perspectives—suggesting that stability is always provisional, and perception is shaped by movement. Rectilinear forms intersect and overlap, while the palette—ranging from warm ochres to cool blues—reinforces the tension between groundedness and flux.

The composition’s spatial complexity invites viewers to consider how orientation affects interpretation. The slanted lines and layered textures destabilize the picture plane, echoing my interest in how visual systems process depth, direction, and relational cues. As with The Mirror, this work reflects her commitment to bridging aesthetic form with cognitive inquiry, positioning the canvas as a site of both sensory engagement and the hands-on process of artmaking.
