Homage to Lichtenstein (2023) is a mixed-media work that pays tribute to the iconic Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997), while asserting my own personal visual language. Executed on white archival paper, the painting features a tightly structured composition of alternating vertical stripes punctuated by curved black forms and a bold diagonal band.
The palette—limited to black, white, and red—heightens the graphic impact and recalls the print aesthetics central to Lichtenstein’s Pop oeuvre. Still, my hand is evident in the subtle irregularities and layered textures, suggesting a perceptual depth that transcends pastiche.
Therefore. this homage is not mere imitation. Rather, it is a dialogue across generations, and is a part of my homages series, which includes tributes to Sol LeWitt, Paul Klee, and others. All reflect a sustained engagement with art history in tandem with creating my personal visual language or syntax.
Thus, Homage to Lichtenstein stands out as a work involved with synthesis on several levels. As noteworthy as the homage referent is how the artwork brings conceptual rigor and optical play together. In other words, this small piece invites viewers to reconsider the boundaries between abstraction, representation, and homage.
